Today, social networks are used not only for communication and receiving news, but also as tools
for education, commemoration and popularization of history. Attention to social networks as educational tools
intensified in Ukraine with the introduction of distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However,
the study of social networks in the study of history at universities of Ukraine has not yet become a subject of
scientific research. To create and use high-quality content in higher education, it is important to pay attention
to the experience of foreign specialists. A well-known example is the Israeli project Eva.stories, the idea of
which is to acquaint young people with the history of the Holocaust through the Instagram account of a Jewish
girl, Eva Heyman. Thus, the purpose of this article is to study the possibilities of social networks for the study
and popularization of history in universities of Ukraine, using the Eva.stories project as an example. The Instagram account was created based on the materials of Eva's diary and is its visual version. The heroine talks about her family, friends, and the life of the Jewish community in the city of Oradea (Romania) with the help of stories and photographs. The chosen format allows users to immerse themselves as much as possible in the times when Eva lived, evokes emotions and sympathy. The project sparked a lively discussion in Israel among experts about the feasibility of using social networks to highlight the difficult topic of the Holocaust, the possibilities of commemoration in the digital age. Despite certain inaccuracies, the project's artistic interpretation of a number of events attracted the support and interest of young people and became an example of narrative digital history, a modern tool for commemorating the Holocaust. As a result of the research, it was established that the project has significant research and educational potential. The materials of the page, under the condition of conscious and responsible teaching of history and the use of digital tools, can be used during the study of the history of the Holocaust, Romania and Hungary during the Second World War. Students have the opportunity to explore the Instagram page as: a visual supplement to the diary, a source for studying the historical memory of Israel, popularizing the history, a digital tool for preserving the memory of the Shoah. |
