L. Kuchma’s idea of the multi-vector foreign policy of Ukraine proves that the lack of a unified
strategy for the development of the country provokes neighboring states to interfere in its
internal affairs. And the lack of information protection contributes to the formation of the image
of a scandalous country. Internal scandals that turned into international, political crises, threats,
blackmail, lawsuits and physical destruction of opponents characterize the era of L. Kuchma’s
presidency as the establishment of a hybrid regime. The media, which should have been the
mouthpiece of a democratic system, turned into a manual mechanism of influence. The
protection of corporate and personal interests has led to the country losing its right to
independence. And the symbolization of the political regime itself from the Western and Russian media formed a national trauma.
