The article deals with the influence of the Donetsk region settlement history on the formation and development of Ukrainian Eastern Steppe dialects. This makes it possible to explain the mosaic spatial behavior of the dialects under study and the peculiarities of heterogeneous dialects functioning, as well as to trace the influence of the ethnic and cultu-ral environment on the formation of Donetsk dialects.
